This fun, informative, interactive event supports Backcountry Hunters & Anglers in their mission to protect and preserve public lands for all recreational users.

Our family has long invited our community to come to the kitchen and make tamales this time of year. It was a tradition my Papi brought with him from Mexico - in Mexicano households, families gather together in early December and make big batches of food to feed big groups of people.  In our home, folks would gather in the kitchen over piles of banana leaves, bowls of chicken and masa, and share in big batch cooking: laughing and swapping stories while dad presided over the whole thing. And when he passed away I knew I wanted to carry the tradition on - to offer the best of his life not only for our benefit but for the benefit of others. So many friends often ask and nudge about the next tamale-making party - I think we all crave those moments where new skills are learned, good work is shared, and stories happen. There’s a welcoming rhythm in making food together that allows for connection and conversation over a shared task.

The truth is, you don’t have to look that far to have a good reason to make tamales. They’re endlessly versatile, and they freeze and save well. But when it comes down to it, the best reason to make tamales is to make them together.

These are meant to be gathering places, and that’s more valuable than ever right now. And while I’m still working out a way to gather you all into my kitchen in the physical, for now, I’m inviting you to gather in the virtual.

Join me for an interactive virtual tamale-making experience on Tuesday, December 19th at 6:00 pm mst.

*This event should last anywhere between 1.5 - 2 hours*

We’ll send you a fundamental cooking kit that includes the Montana Mex products I like on hand for tamales, my favorite masa from Masienda, and a beautiful little tool from Earlywood Designs I like to use when working with tamales. Register by Dec 12th, 12pm PST for your goodies to arrive on time! We’ll also be sure you have a complete ingredients and equipment list beforehand so you can pull everything else you’ll need from your pantry or local market.

Here’s what you’ll receive in your kit: OVER A $65 VALUE!

  • Montana Mex Sweet Seasoning 3.4 oz Tin
  • Montana Mex Mild Chile Seasoning 2.4 oz Tin

Whether you want to gather loved ones and cook along with me or just watch for now and get your hands dirty later, I’d love to have you in my virtual kitchen.

This virtual gathering will be part conversation, part methodology, part demonstration, and an all-around good time. We’ll cover the art of mixing masa, dive into the play of concocting delicious fillings for any palate, and bring the whole process together to make some toothsome tamales to enjoy now or later. With tips, tricks, and techniques all along the way.

You’ll have full access to a recording of our live stream so you can watch again anytime.  PLUS we’ll follow-up after the event with a fun little e-book with recipes & photos from the day, along with deeper stories inspired by this mighty dish and our time together.

Here’s the really good part: We’re partnering with Backcountry Hunters & Anglers again this year, so a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold goes directly towards supporting their work protecting & preserving public lands for all recreational users.
